This upgrade is among the most important for the Liberty CRD. This vehicle should have had the fuel lift pump right from the factory, but it appears that the bean-counters nixed this idea to keep costs down. This is the main reason why CRD engines have fuel issues. With a lift pump installed you will experience better starting, especially in cold weather. You may also notice quicker throttle response and the engine runs and idles smoother. You can be sure you never have any fuel aeration issues and never need to hand pump the fuel filter head again.
Air-in-fuel problems inevitably arise on the Liberty CRD platform due to a fundamental design choice to not implement a low-pressure in-tank lift pump like what was standard equipment on the Dodge Cummins which shares a similar high-pressure CP3 fuel pump with the Liberty CRD. Jeep did give us a relay and a fuse, but the in-tank lift pump was scrapped for production: clearly a cost-savings measure, rather than a technical one.

Saw the code for large fuel leak and I determined I need a lift pump kit. Bought your lift pump and harness and even though I’m 70 plus managed to fix the problem thanks to your good instructions. The Jeep started right up without priming and the fuel gauge read correctly. The new harness even took care of my ABS light problem. Had to go to the Mechanic to have the code cleared then it was good. Hardest part was crawling in and out from under the rig. Big help for me was using a hydraulic table to pull the fuel tank. Did need to have my mechanic replace the fuel pump lock ring using the proper wrench. Thanks for the quality parts and information.
I received my lift pump and wiring harness about 5 days from when I placed the order. The part came nicely packaged and all was protected appropriately. The custom harness was very well done. Using the tutorial on YouTube, I was able to follow along and get my parts replaced. As I am an inexperienced mechanic, the process took me about two days including cleaning out my entire fuel tank as well as my car in the process. I imagine someone with more experience and the right tools not needing to go to the hardware store in between, would be able to get it done in a day. I would recommend changing out the fuel hose between the lift pump in the tank and the fuel lines under the car to ensure no air leaks while you are doing this. My CRD runs smooth as butter now. It is a pleasure to start the vehicle now. No more hard starts, constant bleeding of lines, or rough running. Hope this does the trick for you. Oh yeah, and best price at Sasquatch! Worked great. There is a video they send you that can show you how if needed. The harness worked perfect. Had no issues. Does require a slight amount of trimming to the pump, but it’s easy peasy.
