Single Glow Plug
This is the new style 5V steel glow plug made by Bosch. These 5V glow plugs are the official OE replacement for the 7V ceramic plugs and requires re-calibrating the ECM.
However, based on community feedback and our own testing with winter starting, we prefer the 5V plugs regardless of ECM programming. Running 5V plugs at 7V may reduce lifespan and will void the glow plug warranty. That said, many of our customers have been running the 5V plugs on 7V ECM calibration for years so far without issue.
Using the 5V plugs with the 7V ECM calibration won’t trigger a check engine light. Steel glow plugs won’t damage the engine when they fail, unlike the OE ceramic glow plugs.
To identify what glow plugs you have, you can look at them and there should be a colored ring near the end where the plug slides over it:
- White = Bosch 7v Ceramics (original equipment)
- Red= Bosch 5V Steel, Jeep’s replacement for the ceramics
